About Rooted in Spirit

It’s an awesome event when one of my horses comes up and gently places his soft, warm nose close to my face, his warm breath caressing my cheek. Knowing how powerful these animals are, it’s such a thrill to feel the deep trust and affection that has developed between us. Over the past several years the call from Spirit to create this website has felt like the gentle nudging of my horses. When I reflect on my life, I can see that a deep trust and affection has developed there as well.

For as far back as I can remember I have been deeply connected with Spirit. As a little girl growing up in Florida, I spent most of my time outside, playing with Nature. I’ve always known that every animal, bug, tree, flower, stone, and stream contained the same energetic force that I did. I tried my best to make friends with everything that crawled or slimed across my path.

After college, I married a wonderful man named Martin, and raised 2 sons. At the age of 28 I met one of my mentors, Father Jim Radebaugh, and for 13 years I was very involved in the Christian Church, receiving counseling, instruction on contemplative prayer, and teaching Sunday school.

In 1992, my family moved to Boulder, Colorado, where I met another one of my mentors, Pastor Rich Mayfield. Together we have studied books on the spiritual journey, and hosted contemplative retreats, which have nurtured my connection to God. At the same time, I began to seriously practice ashtanga yoga at Richard Freeman’s Yoga Workshop and for the past 2 years, Pilates with a beautiful yogini, Mary Bischof Stoede.

Amber Flynn, an astrologer, encouraged me to do “The Artist’s Way” by Judith Cameron, which led me through 2 years of intensive interior work. Connecting with an amazing African woman, Sobonfu Some, and her teachings on the importance of the feminine voice, ritual, grief, community, and Spirit have transformed my life.

This is one facet of My Story, shaped by the gifts of others: Nature continues to assure me of the unconditional love of our Creator; my husband offers support and creates beautiful spaces for us to inhabit. Father Jim opened the portal to the spiritual world; Pastor Rich challenged me to broaden my perspectives; many yoga instructors connected me to the body, and its wisdom; Mary awakened my core and its connection to the soul. Amber introduced me to the work my Higher Self came here to do; and Sobonfu ignited my feminine fire.

Now at 52, Spirit has nudged me to take the leap onto the World Wide Web! The time is ripe for women to share and honor our feminine journey. I look forward to reading Your Story.

Much Love,

Debbie Stringfellow
